What does “stabilized” mean?
Stabilized refers to wood that has been impregnated with resin under pressure. This process reinforces the wood by filling microscopic voids and strengthening softer areas from within. The result is a block that machines more predictably, and is far more resistant to tear-out, cracking, or blowouts than untreated wood. Some colour variation within a block is normal due to differences in wood density and resin absorption. Minor internal imperfections are a natural part of working with real wood and are not grounds for return.
What is the size of this block?
Each knife block measures approximately 1" × 2" × 6". This versatile format provides ample material for shaping, contouring, and final fitting across a wide range of knife handle designs. The photo shown is a representative sample only. Blocks are selected at random and will vary in colour and grain. No refunds for colour variation or minor internal imperfections.
Two fun facts about padauk
- Freshly cut padauk is famously bright orange-red and gradually deepens to a rich reddish-brown over time when exposed to light, giving finished handles a distinctive aged character.
- Padauk is naturally resistant to insects and decay, which is why it has long been used in outdoor applications and high-wear items across Africa and Asia.
