These blanks turn beautifully - here are some tips for best results:
Always use razor-sharp tools and take very light cuts. The resin sections can be brittle, and aggressive cuts increase the risk of chipping.
When gluing pen tubes into Fusion blanks, make sure the brass tube is thoroughly coated with thick CA glue. Any spot that is not fully covered with glue is likely to let go as you approach final diameter during turning.
Finish Fusion hybrid blanks the same way you would an acrylic. Start with the lowest grit of Abranet mesh and work your way up to the highest. Use light pressure and let the mesh do the work. Move the sheet around to different areas as you go to prevent heat. Follow this with successive grits of Micro Mesh; we recommend wet sanding, which will create a slurry that is perfect for getting a flawless finish and avoiding fine scratches in the acrylic. Then finish with a plastic polish of your choice.
Tip: If you’re looking for a Fusion colour you used to buy and can’t find it on our site, there’s a good chance it was made with Buckeye Burl. We’re currently having trouble sourcing Buckeye Burl at sustainable pricing (and if you happen to have a lead, please let us know!). In the meantime, we’re working on redesigning those colours using other types of burl. Stay tuned — we’ll be relaunching them soon.
