Add confident material removal and controlled shaping to your lathe setup with this tool bar featuring a 10.5 mm (0.41") square Nanograin carbide cutter (handle not included — you turn your own!). Designed and manufactured in Canada, this bar is built for efficient stock removal, clean shaping, and small- to medium-scale turning projects where stability and control matter.

The shaft is machined from high-quality stainless steel and CNC-machined to precisely fit the individual Nanograin carbide cutter, ensuring solid, accurate performance and dependable cutter alignment.

The 10.5 mm square Nanograin carbide cutter is designed as a square rougher, ideal for quickly bringing square stock to round and removing material efficiently. It excels at straight cuts, forming tenons, flattening surfaces, and establishing clean lines before moving to finer detailing tools.

Whether you’re roughing spindle blanks, shaping handles, preparing bowl exteriors, or working on pen-related projects, this cutter delivers smooth, predictable performance with excellent edge life.

This tool bar will also fit:

  • 10.5 mm square cutter KD-R50 (slight radius) by Kilian Tools
  • 10.5 mm square cutter KD-150 (medium radius) by Kilian Tools
  • EWT-2500 square Ci2 SQ carbide cutter by Easy Wood Tools
  • ACCU-10.5-CUTTER-SQ square carbide cutter for Pen Master ACCU-CUT by William Wood-Write

How do I turn the handle?

The tool bars fit into a ½” diameter x 3" deep hole. At this size, the bar should be epoxied in to make sure it’s solid. Optionally, drilling 1/64” undersized at 31/64” makes for a snug friction fit with no glue required.

The ferrules fit onto a 0.85” diameter x ½” long tenon on the end of the handle, although turning and trial fitting for a tight fit is recommended. A bit of epoxy or cyanoacrylate glue helps to lock them in place.

What is this tool best suited for?

This square carbide rougher is ideal for rapid stock removal, turning square blanks round, straight cuts and clean shoulders, forming tenons, and general shaping on spindle and small bowl projects. The square profile offers stability and strong cutting performance, making it a reliable first-step tool before switching to round or detail cutters.

Safe use of woodturning tools

As with all woodturning tools, these Nanograin carbide cutters will provide years of service if treated with care and respect. We recommend cutting at or slightly above centre; cutting below centre can cause the tool to become overly aggressive. Avoid sharp impacts, as carbide inserts can fracture if struck. Always wear a dust mask, safety glasses, and a face shield when turning. Keep loose clothing, hair, and gloves well clear of the work area.
