By using only the shaft length required for the project, this mandrel helps reduce shaft deflection and improves turning accuracy.

What is a colleted pen mandrel?

A colleted pen mandrel uses a precision collet to securely grip the mandrel shaft rather than relying on a threaded nut system. This design helps maintain better alignment and allows the shaft length to be adjusted easily for different projects.

The mandrel is used to hold your pen tubes and bushings while you turn the blank to its finished size and shape.

How does the mandrel work?

Simply mount your tubes and bushings then slide the shaft to the appropriate length and lock it in place. The shorter shaft reduces the likelihood of the mandrel shaft bowing. The collet is tightened with two wrenches.  

If you are using the Pen Master NoFlex Live Centre with this mandrel, the brass nut should be removed before use.
