What tooling do I need to make this kit?
To make these kits, you will need (all sold separately):
Drill bits: 27/64 and Letter V. In place of the Letter V drill bit, you can also use a 3/8 drill bit.
Pen mill shafts: 27/64 and 3/8
Accessories and tooling (drills, pen mills, mandrels, etc.) are not included and must be purchased separately. This kit is not compatible with the single-barrel Maple Leaf twist ballpoint kit (bushings 104A) or the 127A bushing set for maple leaf key ring (sorry!). The 3/8 pen mill shaft can be used to mill the ends of the lower barrel drilled with the Letter V bit.
This is a woodworking turning project that requires drilling, turning, finishing, and assembly using woodworking equipment. You will not receive a finished pen.
What refill do these kits take?
The rollerball kit uses a Schmidt rollerball refill for smooth, reliable writing. If you're looking for a splash of colour, the Pentel Energel rollerball refills are a great option!
The fountain pen kit includes both a standard ink cartridge and an ink pump (converter) for bottled ink. You can install either option when assembling the pen.
What size blank do I need?
We recommend using blanks that measure a minimum of 3/4" square by 5" long (19 mm x 19 mm x 127 mm), which provide ample material for drilling, turning, and trimming during assembly. These are the dimensions of the two blanks included in the gift box.
