Stabilized Walnut knife block 1" x 2" x 5" - product of Canada

Craft warm, classic knife handles with this walnut knife block. Walnut is a favourite among woodworkers for good reason—it finishes beautifully, and offers rich, natural colour that adds character to any custom knife project.

Walnut heartwood ranges from a light, pale brown to deep chocolate tones, often accented with darker streaks. Depending on the board and cut, colour can show subtle grey, purple, or reddish undertones, while the sapwood contrasts with a pale yellow-grey to nearly white appearance. With its medium texture and moderately straight grain, walnut is highly cooperative for shaping, sanding, and finishing.

This block size is well suited for a wide range of knife handle styles, giving you plenty of material to shape, contour, and fine-tune your final fit.

What are the dimensions of this block?

Each knife block measures approximately 1" × 2" × 5". As a natural wood product, some variation in colour and grain is normal. The photo shown is a representative image only. Your block will be selected at random and may vary in colour, grain, or figure from the image shown.

What does “stabilized” mean?

Stabilized refers to wood that has been impregnated with resin under pressure. This process reinforces softer or highly figured areas, filling microscopic voids and strengthening the wood from the inside out. Because resin and dye absorption varies with wood density, some colour variation within a blank is normal. Minor internal imperfections are also a natural part of working with real wood. For these reasons, we do not offer refunds for colour variation or slight internal imperfections.

Fun facts about black walnut:

  • The rich brown colour of black walnut develops naturally — it’s not stained or dyed.

  • Walnut trees release natural compounds from their roots that prevent other plants from growing too close, a phenomenon known as allelopathy.
