Coffee bean pen blanks — made in Canada

Handcrafted in Guelph, Ontario, these coffee bean pen blanks are cast from high-quality Alumilite resin with real coffee beans suspended inside. Each blank is truly one of a kind, with natural variation in bean placement, colour, and depth that ensures no two finished pens will ever be exactly alike.

These blanks are a natural fit for coffee lovers, baristas, and anyone who appreciates a great cup of coffee. As you turn the blank on the lathe, you may even notice a subtle, pleasant aroma reminiscent of freshly brewed coffee — a small but satisfying bonus that makes the turning experience even more enjoyable.

What does handcrafted mean?

Because these blanks are hand-poured in small batches, some may show slight internal imperfections or a gently rounded corner from the casting process. These are normal characteristics of hand-cast blanks and will not affect the finished pen, as the ends are removed during turning. Colour distribution and bean placement will vary from blank to blank, and refunds are not offered for these natural variations.

What are the dimensions of these blanks?

Each pen blank measures approximately 3/4" square by 5" long. The photo shown is representative only. Blanks are selected at random and will vary slightly in appearance. Photo is representative only.

What is the best way to turn and finish these blanks?

For best results, turn these blanks slowly and use sharp tools with light, controlled cuts. This helps prevent chipping and keeps the resin and embedded beans cutting cleanly. Finish the blanks the same way you would regular acrylic pen blanks: sand with Abranet, then wet sand with Micro Mesh up to 12,000 grit, and complete the finish with a plastic polish.

How can I prevent the coffee beans from chipping while turning?

Add thin CA glue to your blank as you are turning it. Let the glue dry in between and continue turning. The thin CA will soak into the beans and harden them, preventing chipping and blowouts. Make sure you use sharp tools, take light cuts and go slowly.
