Hard maple spindle turning blanks – product of Canada
Hard maple, also known as sugar maple, is a dense, fine-grained hardwood that turns cleanly and polishes to a brilliant finish. Its creamy colour and subtle grain make it a favourite for spindles, bowls, cutting boards, and fine furniture.
What are the dimensions of these spindles?
Each blank measures approximately 2-1/2" square × 12" long. Each piece is unique and will differ slightly from the image shown. The wood is skip planed, meaning only the high points have been lightly planed, leaving a natural, textured surface that’s ideal for turning.
What projects can I make with these spindles?
Ideal for bottle stoppers, pizza cutter and ice cream scoop handles, and some styles of pepper grinders.
Fun facts about hard maple:
Hard maple is the tree species that gives us maple syrup — the same wood prized by turners for its strength and smooth finish.
It’s used to make the maple flooring found in basketball courts and bowling alleys, thanks to its durability and impact resistance.
