What tooling do I need to make this kit?
To make this kit, you will need (all sold separately):
7/16" drill bit Bushing set 118A Mandrel A/7 mm
This is a woodworking turning project that requires turning, finishing, and assembly using standard woodworking equipment. You will not receive a finished scoop.
What blank size should I use?
We recommend a blank measuring 1-1/2" square × 3-1/2" to 4" long. This gives you enough material to shape a comfortable handle that suits the faceted decorative band and end cap. The free blank you receive with the kit is 1/-1/2" square by 6" long, giving you plenty of material for creativity.
Two fun facts about Curly Maple:
Curly maple isn’t a separate species of maple — the “curl” is a figure caused by irregular grain growth that can appear in several maple species, including hard maple and soft maple.
The shimmering, wavy effect in curly maple (often called “chatoyance”) changes with the angle of light, which is why it’s been prized for centuries in violin backs, gunstocks, and high-end furniture.
