Antique style coffee grinder mechanism kit – ceramic grinder

Build a one-of-a-kind working coffee grinder with vintage character. This kit lets you create your own wooden grinder base and drawer, then add the decorative grinding mechanism to complete a practical project that makes a great handmade gift for any coffee lover.

The mechanism features a ceramic grinder. Plans are included to help you build a traditional box-and-drawer design, or you can adjust the dimensions and wood choices to create your own custom version.

What is included in this kit?

The kit includes adjustable ceramic grinding mechanism, crank handle with knob, mounting hardware, plans for building a wooden base and drawer. The grinder mechanism measures approximately 3" × 3" × 5" high (76 × 76 × 127 mm). Wood and finished grinder shown are not included.

This is a woodworking project that requires woodworking equipment, drilling, fitting, and assembly. You will not receive a finished coffee grinder.

How does the grinder work?

Coffee beans are added through the top of the mechanism and ground by turning the crank handle. The ground coffee falls into the wooden drawer below. The grind size can be adjusted at the top of the mechanism, allowing you to change the coarseness of the coffee grounds.

What do I need to make the wooden grinder base?

The included plans provide dimensions for a typical coffee grinder base. These measurements can be changed to suit your design, wood selection or preferred finished size. Suggested dimensions include:

• Box: 5-1/2" wide × 4" high × 1/2" thick (140 × 102 × 13 mm)
• Base: 7" × 7" × 1/2" (178 × 178 × 13 mm)
• Drawer opening: 4-1/2" wide × 1-1/2" high (114 × 38 mm)
• Finished drawer: 4-7/16" wide × 5" deep × 1-7/16" high (113 × 127 × 37 mm)

Drill an opening in the top of your wooden box to accommodate the grinder mechanism, then secure it using the included mounting hardware.

Can I customize the grinder?

Absolutely. The measurements in the plans are a starting point rather than a requirement. Choose your favourite wood, change the proportions, add decorative details or adapt the joinery to create a coffee grinder that's uniquely yours.
