11 mm round negative rake nanograin carbide cutter (5°) by Kilian Tools – replacement cutter

Take your finishing cuts to the next level with this 11 mm round Negative Rake Nanograin carbide replacement cutter featuring a 5-degree negative rake. Designed for smoother, more controlled cutting action, this cutter is ideal for refining surfaces, reducing tear-out, and achieving superior finishes — especially on challenging materials.

The round 11 mm profile combined with a 5-degree negative rake geometry creates a gentler cutting angle. This reduces aggressive bite, minimizes catches, and improves control, particularly on end grain, highly figured or curly woods, stabilized blanks, acrylic and resin materials, or fusion hybrid wood/resin projects.

The result is a cleaner surface with less sanding required and greater confidence during delicate finishing passes.

What is included?

  • 1x 11 mm (.43") round Nanograin negative rake carbide cutter (5° negative rake)
  • 1x mounting screw (M4-40 x 5/16")

What tools will this cutter fit?

This 11 mm round carbide cutter is compatible with:

  • Kilian Tools 11 mm round tool bar
  • Pen Master ACCU-CUT round chisel (black handle)
  • Easy Wood Tools Easy Start Finisher EWT-9620
  • Easy Wood Tools Mid-Size Easy Finisher EWT-6300

This cutter will NOT fit the original Pen Master carbide tools with the aluminum handle.

Benefits of negative rake geometry

Unlike standard carbide cutters, a negative rake cutter features an additional top bevel that creates a more controlled shearing action. Key benefits include smoother finishing cuts, reduced tear-out on difficult grain, less aggressive cutting action, improved control on small or delicate projects, and excellent performance on acrylics and stabilized materials.

This makes it an excellent choice as a dedicated finishing cutter after roughing and shaping are complete.

How can I sharpen this cutter?

Nanograin carbide cutters are designed to be rotated to a fresh edge when one side becomes dull. Loosen the screw, rotate the cutter to a new cutting edge, and retighten securely. If all edges have been used, light sharpening can be done carefully with a fine diamond sharpening card or diamond stone and lapping fluid. Maintain the factory bevel angle and apply light pressure. Avoid overheating the cutter.

Always ensure the cutter is seated flat and tightened securely before returning the tool to service.

Safe use of carbide cutters

Avoid sharp impacts, as carbide inserts can fracture if struck. Always cut at or slightly above centre to maintain control and reduce aggressive cutting action. Wear a dust mask, safety glasses, and a face shield when turning, and keep loose clothing, hair, and gloves well clear of the work area.
