Sapele comes from tropical Africa. It can be used as a substitute for mahogany. It is a deep red-brown cappuccino colour. Sapele has an interlocked grain and a natural wavy luster when finished.
What are the dimensions of these ring blanks?
Each ring blank measures approximately 1.5" × 1.5" × 0.5" (about 40 mm × 40 mm × 13 mm). This size is ideal for turning a single ring with enough material for shaping and final fitting. Each blank shown has been sanded to highlight the grain and is representative only. Your blanks will be selected at random, and natural variations in colour and grain are normal.
What does it mean if a blank is stabilized?
The stabilization process infuses the wood with resin, strengthening softer areas and creating a blank that’s durable, easy to turn, and polishes beautifully.
What is the best way to finish this blank?
For best results, apply a thin CA glue finish, then sand progressively using Abranet followed by Micro-Mesh. Complete the process with a plastic polish to achieve a smooth, durable, high-gloss finish.
