Stabilized and double-dyed Maple pen blanks

Add bold colour and natural wood character to your next pen with stabilized and double-dyed Maple pen blanks. Each blank is impregnated with resin and two colours of dye, creating vibrant colour combinations while allowing the natural grain and figure of the maple to remain visible.

Because every piece of wood has its own grain and density, the resin and dyes are absorbed differently throughout each blank. The result is a one-of-a-kind combination of colour and natural wood pattern in every piece.

What are the dimensions of these pen blanks?

Each blank measures a minimum of 3/4" square × 5" (19 × 19 × 127 mm), a standard size suitable for most pen turning projects.

The photos are representative examples only. The blank shown has been sanded to better display the grain and figure. Your blanks will be selected at random and will vary in colour, grain, figure and resin absorption.

What does “stabilized and double-dyed” mean?

Stabilization involves impregnating the wood with resin, reinforcing softer areas and creating a more consistent material for drilling, turning and finishing. These blanks are also double dyed, using two colours to create additional depth and contrast within the wood. Differences in wood density affect how much resin and dye are absorbed, so colour intensity and distribution will naturally vary from blank to blank and within individual blanks.

Minor internal imperfections may also occur and are not considered defects. We do not offer refunds for colour variation or minor internal imperfections.

How should I finish these blanks?

These stabilized blanks can be drilled and turned using standard pen-turning techniques. For best results, sand progressively using Abranet or sanding mesh, followed by Micro Mesh.

For a smooth, high-gloss finish, apply a cyanoacrylate (CA) glue finish followed by a plastic polish, or use the GluBoost finishing system. Friction polishes such as Doctor's Wood Shop, Mylands, Aussie Oil or Shellawax can also be used.
