Is the wood really thousands of years old?
Yes! We had it verified here in Canada and each block includes a certificate confirming that the wood has been independently carbon dated in Canada by Université Laval in Quebec.
What are the dimensions of this spindle blank?
Each block measures approximately 1-1/2" square × 12" long. This size is ideal for a wide range of small turning projects including kitchen project handles, bottle stoppers, larger ornaments, pill holder and lighter key rings.
What makes Ancient Bog Oak so unique?
Ancient origin: Bog oak is preserved underground or beneath riverbeds for thousands of years in oxygen-free conditions, typically 3 to 7 metres deep.
Distinctive colour and hardness: Over centuries, tannins in the oak react with iron salts in the soil, producing rich, dark tones and a dense, durable structure.
Rare and collectible: Every block carries a story spanning millennia, making each finished piece a true conversation starter.
