One of a kind: Tiger padauk pen blanks - rare with highly figured curl

Bold colour and striking figure come together in these tiger padauk pen blanks. Each piece is one of a kind — what you see is exactly what you will receive. Simply choose your favourite blank from the dropdown menu.

Tiger padauk is known for its vibrant orange to reddish tones paired with dramatic striping that creates a “tiger” effect across the grain. This highly figured hardwood stands out on the lathe and produces finished pens with strong visual contrast and natural depth.

What size are the blanks?

Each blank measures approximately 3/4" square by 5" long (19 mm × 19 mm × 127 mm), which is the standard size for most pen turning projects. No two pieces are the same — pick the exact blank you want. What you see is what you get! Select your preferred blank from the dropdown menu above.

What makes tiger padauk special?

Tiger padauk is valued for its bold grain pattern and vivid colour. The “tiger” striping comes from interlocking grain that reflects light differently across the surface, giving the wood a dynamic, almost shimmering look. It turns cleanly and reveals its figure more and more as you refine the surface.

Fun facts about tiger padauk:

  • Freshly cut padauk is often a bright orange, but it can deepen over time to a richer reddish-brown with exposure to light.
The “tiger” effect is caused by the wood’s interlocking grain, which creates natural chatoyance — a shimmering effect similar to what you see in tiger’s eye stone
