What can I make with this bundle?

This bundle is ideal for:

  • Wooden rings with decorative inlay bands
  • Crushed opal ring inlays
  • Decorative accents in pen blanks
  • Bottle stopper embellishments
  • Knife scale inlays
  • Custom woodturning and woodworking projects

The combination of crushed opal and mica powder allows you to create everything from subtle highlights to bold, colourful statement pieces.

How do I create an inlay?

Creating an inlay is straightforward and can be adapted to a wide variety of projects.

  1. Cut a groove or recess
Use a lathe tool, rotary tool or other suitable cutter to create the channel where the inlay will be installed.
  2. Prepare your inlay material
Fill the groove with crushed opal, mica powder or a combination of decorative materials.
  3. Apply the CA glue
Carefully apply the thin CA glue to saturate the inlay material. The glue will flow into the material and help lock everything in place.
  4. Allow the glue to cure
Let the CA glue fully harden before continuing.
  5. Sand and finish
Sand the surface flush and apply your preferred finish. The completed inlay will become a permanent part of the project.
  6. Polish for maximum effect
For rings and other decorative projects, polishing helps bring out the depth, colour and sparkle of the inlay.

Why choose decorative inlay?

Decorative inlays are one of the easiest ways to personalize your projects and create one-of-a-kind designs. Crushed opal and coloured powders can add contrast, visual interest and a professional custom appearance that helps your work stand out.
