Collet chuck system with 5 collets – Series ER #32

Upgrade your workholding setup with this versatile ER32 collet chuck system, designed for secure, accurate gripping of small turning projects. Pre-threaded for a 1" × 8 tpi headstock, this system also includes a 3/4" × 16 tpi spindle adapter, making it compatible with many common mini and midi lathes.

Ideal for pen mandrels, bottle stoppers, and other projects where a tenon is used for chucking, this system offers excellent concentricity and quick, reliable clamping without the need for a traditional jaw chuck.

What is included in this set?

This complete system includes:

  • ER32 collet chuck body (1" × 8 tpi)
  • 1" × 8 tpi thread collet
  • 3/4" × 16 tpi spindle adapter with collet closing head
  • Five ER32 collets: 1/4", 3/8", 1/2", 5/8", and 3/4"
  • Carrying case for organized storage

What can I use this collet chuck for?

Collets provide even, 360-degree clamping pressure, reducing the risk of marring your workpiece compared to traditional jaws. This system is ideal for holding pen mandrels for improved concentricity, gripping bottle stopper blanks or kits, securing small spindles or parts with a tenon, or any project where precise, centered holding is important.

How does it work?

Insert the appropriate collet into the chuck body, slide in your workpiece or mandrel, and hand-tighten the closing nut. As the nut tightens, the collet compresses evenly around the piece, holding it securely and concentrically.

Will this fit my lathe?

This system is designed to thread directly onto lathes with 1" × 8 tpi headstocks. It also includes an adapter for 3/4" × 16 tpi headstocks. Please note: this is a threaded chuck system and is not compatible with Morse taper setups.

Why choose a collet system over a jaw chuck?

Collet systems offer:

  • Superior concentricity (less runout)
  • Faster setup for small, repeatable work
  • Strong, even grip without over-tightening
  • Compact size for better tool access

How tight should I make it?
Hand tightening is typically sufficient to securely hold your workpiece. Avoid overtightening, as the collet system is designed to grip efficiently with minimal force.
