Stabilized and dyed curly maple project block – 1-1/2" square by 6". Product of Canada.

Bring bold colour and striking figure to your next turning project with this stabilized and dyed curly maple project block. Sourced from Canada, curly maple is prized for its dramatic wave pattern and natural shimmer. The curl creates a rippled effect that appears to move in the light, adding depth and chatoyance to your finished piece.

The natural curl of maple adds beautiful movement, while the dyed resin introduces rich, vibrant colour that carries consistently through the blank. Stabilization strengthens the wood, making these blanks reliable, predictable, and easy to drill and turn. Each block is carefully processed for smooth, consistent results on the lathe.

What size are the blanks?

Each blank measures approximately 1-1/2" square by 6" long, ideal for bottle openers, ice cream scoops, rasp handle, vegetable peelers, pizza cutters and other handle projects. The blank shown in the photo has been sanded to highlight the figure and represents a typical example only. Your blank will be selected at random.

What does “stabilized” mean?

Stabilized wood has been impregnated with resin under pressure. This process reinforces softer or highly figured areas, eliminates weak spots, and creates a dense, durable blank that drills cleanly, turns smoothly, and resists tear-out or blowouts.

Some colour variability is to be expected. Different areas of the wood absorb resin and dye differently due to natural density variations. We do not offer refunds for colour variation within a blank or for minor internal imperfections.

How should I finish this blank?

For best results, apply thin CA glue as a finish, sand with Abranet, refine with Micro Mesh, and polish with a plastic polish such as Novus or One-Step. This process will produce a smooth, durable, high-gloss finish that highlights the depth and shimmer of the curl. Friction polishes like Doctor's Wood Shop, Mylands, Aussie Oil or Shellawax products will also give you a durable, high gloss finish.
