Turn a practical, everyday sewing tool with this single seam ripper kit. This kit lets you create a compact, comfortable seam ripper with a clean, professional look. The small steel blade screws securely into the body (no springs required!), and the built-in pocket clip makes it easy to keep close at hand in a sewing kit, project bag, or apron.
What tooling do I need to make this kit?
To make this kit, you will need (all sold separately):
PLEASE NOTE: bushing sets PKSRBU and BUSH-116A-DBL do not fit this kit. This is a woodworking turning project that requires turning, finishing, and assembly using woodworking equipment. You will not receive a finished seam ripper.
What size blank do I need?
This kit requires a pen blank measuring a minimum of 3/4" square by 5" long (blank not included). This provides enough material for turning, shaping, and trimming during the turning, finishing and assembly process. Shown here with a Sumac pen blank (blank not included).
What is the stiletto tip for and why is it in demand with sewers?
The stiletto tip is a handy little accessory that adds a whole new layer of functionality! By swapping out the blade for the stiletto tip, you instantly turn your seam ripper into a versatile 2-in-1 tool. Sewers love it because it guides fabric smoothly under the sewing machine’s presser foot, separates seam allowances before pressing for a crisp, professional finish, and holds and positions small fabric pieces while pressing or stitching.
Maker’s tip:
If you're selling finished seam rippers online or at craft shows, make sure to highlight the added value of the stiletto tip. It's not just a seam ripper — it’s a dual-purpose tool that sewers will reach for again and again!
