What size blank do I need?
You will need a blank measuring approximately 1-1/2" square by 7" to 12" long (38 mm × 38 mm × 178 mm to 305 mm). This longer format gives you flexibility to shape the handle profile and achieve a comfortable grip.
What tooling do I need to make this kit?
This kit is turned between centres so no bushings or mandrel required. Turning between centers means the wood blank is mounted directly on the lathe using a drive center (in the headstock) and a live center (in the tailstock), rather than being mounted on a mandrel. The blank is supported at both ends, and you shape it using your turning tools. This method is commonly used for spindle-style projects like tool handles, chair spindles, and items like this shoe horn.
