What tools do I need to make this project?

A four-jaw chuck, calipers, epoxy and standard woodturning tools are recommended for best results. Tooling is sold separately.

How are the threaded rings installed?

The rings are designed to be epoxied into precisely fitted recesses in both the lid and base. Begin by turning the base and lid separately. Cut a recess in each piece that matches the outside diameter and depth of the aluminium ring. Test fit frequently using calipers to achieve a snug fit. Once both recesses have been completed, mix a two-part epoxy and apply it either inside the recess or around the outside of the ring. If applying epoxy directly to the ring, avoid getting adhesive on the threads. Insert both rings, remove any excess epoxy and allow the adhesive to cure completely before threading the lid onto the base.

What skill level is recommended?

This is an advanced woodturning project. There are several approaches to mounting and turning these projects depending on your preferred techniques and available tooling.
