Two fun facts about West Indian Mahogany: 

• Historic shipbuilding and fine furniture wood
  West Indian mahogany was once one of the most sought-after timbers in the world, especially during the 18th and 19th centuries. Its strength, dimensional stability, and resistance to rot made it ideal for building ships, while its beautiful reddish-brown colour and fine grain made it a favourite for luxury furniture and cabinetry.

• The first mahogany used in Europe
  It was the very first type of mahogany introduced to Europe, arriving from the Caribbean in the 1500s. Its popularity helped spark centuries of transatlantic trade in tropical hardwoods and set the standard for what people now think of as “true mahogany.”
