Stabilizing & casting
Making your own pen blanks
Casting: examples include creating pen blanks by combining wood or other materials like pine cones or burl pieces with resin, or creating blanks using only clear or coloured resins. Different resins require different casting processes. Molds are required to hold the liquid resin until it has cured and can be made from many materials including white plastic cutting boards, silicone, or any material than can be made leak proof. NOTE: we do not sell casting resin.
Stabilization: refers to impregnating soft wood with a resin like Cactus Juice, creating a blank that is no longer weak. It is especially effective on those beautiful, punky spalted woods that are just too soft to work with! Learn more about Cactus Juice and stabilizing blanks here.
